In chapter 16, Nina Zenik asks Inej Ghafa why she doesn’t bear the cup and crow tattoo like the other members of the Dregs:

“Nina’s brows rose. ‘I didn’t think it was optional.’ 

‘Technically it isn’t. I know some people don’t understand, but Kaz told me…  he said it was my choice, that he wouldn’t be the one to mark me again.’” (p.202, Chapter 16).
