Networking panel discussionWe all know networking is key in the GLAMR industry. However, the word networking often brings feelings of anxiety with it. Queensland’s Regional Coordinators are taking networking down a notch to make it a little bit easier to swallow. Join us and our awesome panel to hear about what networking is all about and pick up some tips to make networking seem not as bad! And to test your new found networking knowledge there will be time to network with cheese & wine after the panel discussion.

We are excited to announce our panelist for the evening and what they think about networking –

Kylie Burgess – QUT Library & ALIA SNGG

Kylie is a newly minted librarian who works as the AIRS Library Adviser at QUT and volunteers as a Queensland Regional Coordinator with the ALIA Students and New Graduates Group.  As a self-confessed introvert, Kylie has always found networking a bit overwhelming – but with practice, she’s gotten much better at it in recent years and she is keen is share her tips and tricks!

Sarah Howard – QUT Library

Sarah Howard is a QUT Liaison Librarian for the Schools of Nursing and Optometry & Vision Science.  With over ten years’ experience in Academic Libraries, Sarah has had the opportunity to attend a few conferences throughout her career. Would you believe that she carries a Virtual Reality headset to initiate conversations at conferences!

Anne Reddacliff – State Library Queensland

Anne Reddacliff is a librarian with experience working in public, academic, clinical and state libraries. She is on the Board of Directors for ALIA and a Convenor for IFLA LGBTQ Users Special Interest Group. Her favourite networking tool is coffee!

Ryan Weymouth – Griffith University Library

Ryan is currently the Discipline Librarian for Music at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University. Ryan is an experienced academic research librarian, with strengths in information discovery, customer service, training and support of academics, higher degree research candidates and undergraduate students and in the creation of IT applications for the workplace.  Ryan is also the Secretary for the Australian Branch of the International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Document Centres and has attended many conferences, presented at a few of them and also has organised a couple of conferences as well.

Networking is essential in today’s workplace and especially in the library world. Conferences represent an interesting place to learn new ideas, meet other professionals from all different levels of library, publishing and vendor organisations and experience the wonders of the conference dinner.
