How to write an ALIA CPD Scheme Reflection.

What is the ALIA CPD Scheme?

 

 

The ALIA CPD Scheme aka ALIA Continuing Professional Development Scheme, is a Free resource for ALIA Members, to keep track of their professional learning.

How do I access the ALIA CPD Scheme?

ALIA Members can access the ALIA CPD Scheme by logging into their ALIA Member account via the ALIA website. This is located on the top-right side of the ALIA website.

After logging into your ALIA Member account, a ‘My Profile‘ page will display with your ALIA Member details.  At the top of this page you will see a ribbon of tabs (image 1), select the My CPD tab to display the Certified Professional Program page.

 

How do I add an activity or reflection to ALIA CPD Scheme?

To Add a activity or reflection click on  ‘Add Activity’. This will display an Add pop-up window (Image 2).

In the Add pop-up window fill in the details on the activity:

Date Completed: Use the calander to select the Day, Month and Year or type in the date in the provided field box.

Activity Type: From the drop-down menu you are provided a list of activities to share what type of activity you completed. This includes Professional Reading, Self Development, Training or an Event.

Provider: Who provided the activity? This can be school, placement organisation, workplace or yourself.

Description: Provides a space to briefly say what the activity was called? This is not the spot the add your reflection.

Specialisation: You can tailor your CPD activities to focus on a specialisation. This includes Public Library (General), Public Library Accessibility, Digital Literacy, Research/Academic (General), Government and Schools. Specilist Libraries are not provided in the Specialisation drop-down list.

Hours: How long did your activity go for? If your activity went for 1hour and 30 minutes you can round the hour up to 2hours.

Can you log hours for an activity that runs for several days or months?

Yes. If you participate in the #ALIASNGGBookClub or ALIA Mentor Scheme.

What are postnominals?

If you are an ALIA Member who has participated and recorded an ALIA CPD Scheme for 12 months you are called a Certified Professional.

Associate/Graduate members will have the ALIA (CP) postnominal. ALIA Library Technicians will have the ALIATech (CP) postnominal. After 5-years of participating in the ALIA CPD Scheme you can apply for Distinguished Certified Professional (DCP) status.

2 Active Professionalism (AP) areas:

  • Professionalism – maintaining skills, professional knowledge, standards and values
  • Behavioural skills – how you behave in the workplace

Reflection:

Learning reflection minimum 50 words.

Tips:

Be honest with your reflection. A place to share critical thinking from your LIS studies.

  • How did the activity make you feel?
  • What did you enjoy learning from the activity?
  • What did you wish the activity provided more of? Were there gaps in the activity?
  • How did the activity assist your learning?
