Event Wrap-up: ALIAwest by Nicola Carson

This event was recently held at The Lantern, Curtin University Library, where a gathering of library professionals shared their insights into the current state and future directions of library service.

These were the presentations:

HCL Anderson Award Presentation: presented to Dr Gaby Haddow and Geoff Strempel, congratulations Gaby and Geoff, most well deserved!

Jane Cowell, ALIA President and CEO of Yarra Plenty Regional Library presented on the topic “Book Challenges are on the Rise in WA”.

Kylie Percival, University Librarian at Curtin University presented on the topic “Management Material, Memes and Myths”.

Dr. Nicole Johnston – ALIA Director and Associate University Librarian, Digital Literacy and Library Experience, Edith Cowan University presented on the topic “AI trends in higher education”.

Sophie Farrar, Manager Collection Care, State Library of Western Australia presented on the topic “From Digitisation to Digital Transformation: Challenges and Triumphs”.

Gaby Haddow, Discipline Lead for Libraries, Archives, Records & Information Science, Curtin University presented on the topic “Qualifications and Professional Futures: Keeping Current and Keeping Informed”

Natasha Georgiou, Vice President, West Australian School Library Association (WASLA) presented on the topic “Challenges & Triumphs in WA School Libraries”.

Atlanta Meyer, Learning Communities Manager – Community and Library Services, City of Swan | Public Libraries WA Executive | Chair, IFLA Literacy & Reading Section presented on the topic “Trends from the IFLA Trend Report”.

The event engendered engaging discussion and knowledge transfer amongst library and information management professionals, with the myriad topics highlighting the dynamic and ever-evolving nature of the library sector.
