ALIA Island Geoscience Library Tour Wrap Up

The ALIA Island Group went on a tour of the Mornington Core Library and Geoscience Library, in Hobary on Monday, 12th May.

ALIA Island Convenor, Lily met Lucy Hawthorne (former ALIASNGG Tas Regional Coordinator) and Lia Unwin on the tour. Lucy showed the group around Mornington Core Library. A library that features items that date back to 1880! You can find journals, books, photographs, publications, reports and surveys at the library, divided into subject classification.

Subjects include:

  • Earth Sciences
  • Infrastructure development
  • Mineral resources
  • Land management
  • Natural hazards
  • Mining history

Lia Unwin showed the group around the Core Library. A library with 12,000 pallets of core samples, going back to the 180o’s. Explore ALIA Island’s Facebook page for photos of the Core samples and collections.
