In ALIA SNGG news, our X Social Media Coordinator, Elizabeth Heck published an article on the SLQ blog, co-authored with 2022 John Oxley Library Fellow Dr. Mimi Tsai, titled Drive in Theatres in Queensland.

A lively and erudite exploration of the history of Drive in Theatres in Queensland celebrating the last seventy years, when these Theatres arrived in Australia.

Drawing from the rich resources of the John Oxley Library Collection, the post examines several examples, from the Waterford West drive in, opened in 1974, to the Starlight Drive-In at Aspley, opened in 1957 by the Sourris family, who pioneered cinema in Queensland, and are actively involved in cinema to this day.

Included with the post are a range of photographs digitised from the John Oxley Library collection.
