The ALIA Multicultural Group had their Health Information for Multicultural Communities Webinar on August the 28th.

This webinar provided professional development and support for staff to provide knowledge and awareness of multilingual health resources for a diverse community.

Speaker 1: 

Gayathri (Gaya) Dharmagesan. Senior Project Officer, NSW Multicultural Health Communication Service (MHCS).

The NSW Multicultural Health Communication Service (MHCS) is a state-wide health service. Who provides a translation service for health information and multilingual health information database.

Gaya provided a summary of the NSW Multicultural Health Communication Service website. A useful Publications tab is available on the website with access to pages to Browse by Language and Topic. 

Tips to recommend to the community:

  • Create audio, pictorial visual aids and visual videos.
  • Consult the community about what resources they want.

Speaker 2:

Kay Pisel, Library Customer Service Team Leader – Home Library Service, City of Newcastle Creative & Community Services.

Kay talked about The Memory Project program. The Memory Room is a fortnighly program. Art and Music Therapists are a part of the program.
