ALIA (NSW) South Coast went to Mt Annan to visit the Royal Botanical Gardens and the National PlantBank and the National Herbarium which really are another type of library. Both the PlantBank and Herbarium are libraries of seeds and plant specimens capturing the botanical diversity of NSW (mainly) and Australia. Mt Annan back in the day, prior to colonisation, was a place Indigenous nations would gather from across what we now call NSW, because there was always food and water there. In 1986, the NSW government brought back Mt Annan and established the Gardens. The tour was very informative and interesting and the new Herbarium is an amazing piece of architecture. It is amazing what they are doing including saving the Wollombi Pine (which isn’t a pine!!).
